Resource use and cost has fast become an area where a properly formulated strategic plan is essential.
Exposure to ever changing resource costs; mainly energy, water, metals and chemical products, means significant business risk to companies within energy intensive sectors. Within the hot forging sector energy costs are typically 5 to 10% of turnover so that a rise in energy cost will have a significant impact upon profitability. The only viable option is to progressively reduce resource use as a function of production in an attempt to reduce production costs are at the very least to maintain costs at the current level.
The majority of companies examine monthly energy and water invoices, but these contain little useful information. Brockhouse Group currently carry out a detailed analysis of electrical energy consumption and cost. We obtained and analysed detailed half hourly and daily natural gas consumption with a view to identifying waste and then to work with Brockhouse to eliminate this waste.
