Grant Management and Developmental Support for Skills Provision in Energy Technologies

East Midlands Development Agency

Providing regional colleges with capital grants to improve and increasing teaching of vital energy skills.

Through this programme, emda sought to provide successful applicant colleges with money to buy capital energy technology equipment – thus ensuring colleges have the right equipment to teach new energy courses for a low carbon future. This supports the development and accreditation of new energy qualifications which regional FE colleges will be able to offer their students – leading to increased provision of training in the region and up-skilling of the regional workforce.

After we sent out expressions of interest and scored the received tenders, the funding was provided to four projects split between five colleges – including a successful joint bid.
emda provided further funding for a second phase, from which two more colleges received funding.

During the first phase, a total of £344,855 of grant was awarded to the colleges, while the second phase saw two more colleges receive £78,949.  Technologies purchased included Solar Water Heating, Ground Source Heating, Wind Turbines, Bio Mass technology, CHP units and Rain Water Harvesting equipment.

Further details of the project can be found on the Skills4Energy website.
