Energy Connections Pilot Programme

The energy sector is seen as an important sector for the East Midlands future and emda is striving to find ways to bring tangible benefits to the sector and help the sector reach a position where it can survive and thrive within a low carbon economy through the Energy Connections Pilot Programme.
The East Midlands Development Agency (emda) aims to ensure that the region is "A Flourishing Region" by 2020, through the promotion of sustainable economic development in the region. The energy sector has been identified as important to the region’s economy - it is therefore vital that emda ensure a sustainable business base which will allow the energy sector to thrive within a low carbon economy. To help emda achieve this goal, Pro Enviro set up and ran the pilot Energy Connections programme for its duration of twelve months, until February 2009.
Key set-up activities included the establishment of:
- The services required by different member types
- Suitable recruitment strategies and methodologies (including internationally)
- The best ways of communicating with stakeholders and members
- Successful formation of a steering group
- Suitable partnerships with other organisations.
The running the programme required that we:
- Organise of steering group meetings
- Facilitate networking between regional and international members
- Produce newsletters, case studies regional energy updates and knowledge transfer materials
- Compile evaluation reports for emda
- Run day-to-day activities such as programme administration, liaison between programme members, and provision of information.
We achieved a members list which included international members and regional University members, and the programme resulted in regional / international collaborations, as well as: networking events, development and dissemination of case studies, student placements and research projects for regional businesses, and an online knowledge management platform.
