Capacity Building of Business Link Advisors
East Midlands Development Agency
Developed four training packages to equip business support providers and managers with a basic understanding of resource efficiency issues in order to be able to appropriately diagnose basic resource efficiency requirements within a variety of business contexts. The materials were delivered in a blended approach including web-based virtual learning.
We developed the capacity building process to provide training and support for up to 150 Business Support Advisors within the East Midlands on the issues of resource efficiency. This training is in a modular form, integrated with the core competencies of the business support standards developed by SFEDI. We developed a resource efficiency competency model, fully integrated into this structure.
We worked with the East Midlands Business Link team and other key managers within the resource efficiency sector in the region to help ensure that resource efficiency is integrated within the delivery of training to meet core competencies and to ensure resource efficiency is prioritised as a learning and skills development need for Business Support Advisors.
The capacity building programme incorporates four core modules to equip business support providers and managers with a basic understanding of resource efficiency issues in order to be able to appropriately diagnose basic resource efficiency requirements within a variety of business contexts:
- General awareness of resource efficiency and resource efficiency programmes within the region.
- Energy management, monitoring and targeting; use of half hourly data; energy management systems; energy reduction strategies; awareness of other national programmes, e.g. Carbon Trust schemes.
- Waste management; waste audits; emissions management and industrial symbiosis; awareness of current regional waste minimisation and management projects.
- Water management systems including grey water, harvesting recycling, waste recovery and effluent treatment.
We have extensive knowledge of resource efficiency training and the delivery of multi modal and blended training systems to meet the needs of individual and group learning styles - we also have a bank of learning materials that can be readily adapted, allowing us to quickly deliver the programme with inclusion of training materials on the following related topics:
- Resource efficiency policy development
- Diagnostic tools
- Problem solving
- Legislative and regulatory issues
- Support programmes
- Product and process design
- Transportation
- Sector specific issues as agreed with the Business Link management team.
The core of the materials developed by Pro Enviro have recently been accredited by IEMA for the purpose of supporting Business Link Advisors CPD. The actual materials were designed to meet the needs of the advisors in the East Midlands and the priority sectors within the region. The materials were delivered using a blended approach, including workshops and web-based support materials.
