It's Not Easy Being Green, But We Can Help!
Sustainable living is something we all wish could achieve. But is it possible without losing too much of life’s little luxuries?
For those old enough to remember, a few Americans wanted to go "back to the land" in the mid 1970’s. Beginning in the 1960s, the movement was based on ideals of self-sustainability, organic farming and alternative energy and was brought into light by issues such as the Vietnam war, the 1973 energy crisis and growing public concern about water pollution.
Of course, times have changed; many of these "new-age" movements are now relics of the past and wouldn't fit in with modern society.
But what can we do now?
The increase in knowledge about issues such as climate change and water shortages, as well as increases in price of various fuels has re-sparked interest in how sustainable living can be achieved.
Many people have tried to live more a more sustainable life by taking preventative measures to ensure they get the maximum possible use out of fuels and natural resources. Julia Hailes MBE spent 3 months converting her Victorian farmhouse in Somerset into an environmentally-friendly home. Her methods for doing this included extensive re-wiring and re-plumbing and installation of new efficient but expensive wool insulation. Her methods also included more simple techniques, such as re-using wood, use of energy-saving light bulbs and the installation of reflective panels behind radiators.
The BBC has even commissioned a new series "It's not easy being green" which is currently being shown on BBC2 Tuesdays at 8:30pm. Retired Lieutenant Colonel Dick Strawbridge (of Scrapheap Challenge fame) takes numerous measures with the help of his family to live with as little possible effect on the environment. Measures he has taken include; rearing his own animals, using a wind turbine to pump fresh water and using efficient insulation to maintain heat in the house.
If you don't fancy jumping straight in at the deep end and installing your own composting toilet, Pro Enviro can offer a small number of solar powered products to help make your life and/or organisation more sustainable.
Pro Enviro is expanding into solar power and photovoltaic power generation. We can design, install and commission photovoltaic solutions for micro-generation to large scale solar power generation applications. We provide the expertise to help you select the most appropriate alternative power generation solution for your industrial and commercial applications.
In addition to this we are able to supply smaller solar powered items; from torches and radios to traffic signals and power generation, we can help design and install a wide range of products for almost any commercial or industrial application.
