Limiting the Impact of Climate Change
We are already seeing the consequences of failing to control greenhouse gas emissions. Gases such as carbon dioxide are currently threatening our environment. Now we all need to take action to reduce such emissions or we face the risk of further and more dramatic changes to our climate.
The Climate Change Solutions Conference (30th March - 1st April 2004) that is associated with the et2004 exhibition, both at the NEC in Birmingham, gives everyone the opportunity to see what they can do to help. The following is an overview of some of the themes, issues and broad resolutions that speakers, delegates and exhibitors will discuss and demonstrate in this forthcoming event.
The Ways Forward
Firstly, we need to promote and implement energy efficiency programmes - initiatives that are applicable to all industrial sectors, transport and domestic contexts. As an example, businesses often rank energy costs and their reduction as a lower priority than other costs. Hence a possible way forward is to educate companies and assist them to effectively reduce their energy cost via management and control processes.
Processes are also required to quantify greenhouse gas emissions. Greenhouse gas permits are the first step in this direction and will help people reduce emissions from all sources; however companies must realise that compliance to this permit will prove very demanding.
Another possible answer to limiting environmental damage is to implement energy and transport policies. Organisations will then need to comply to such policies and manage the environmental impacts of their operations.
A final example of a way to progress and reduce emissions is via environmental and energy monitoring programmes. Such programmes provide accurate information on the direct consequences for climate change. Publishing the results of such a programme makes the consequences visible to all and furthermore, companies can demonstrate their improvements in energy and environmental management.
Climate Change Solutions Conference 2004
Pro Enviro is pleased to continue their association with the Climate Change Conference, an event that is now in its 4th year. Yet again, a distinguished list of speakers including Dr William Kyte OBE, The Rt Hon Stephen Timms MP and Professor Martin Fry are presenting at the conference (the full conference programme can be found on the conference website).
Pro Enviro can provide effective solutions to your environmental issues, including, IPPC, waste management and energy data monitoring. You will find us at stand D25 during et2004. For further information on any of the issues identified above please contact Dr Richard Whitaker on 024 7627 9000.
