Pro Enviro helps to launch SEE Change
Pro Enviro hosted the launch of the SEE Change project. On hand to show support and help get the project off to a great start were Stafford MP David Kidney, who officially opened the centre, and senior representatives from Advantage West Midlands, Learning and Skills Council and the East Midlands Development Agency.
Background
SEE (Social, Environmental and Economic) Change exists to establish a series of specialist sustainable development centres in each region of the UK. Each centre will be based around a knowledge management platform and therefore may be either a virtual or physical centre dependant on regional requirements.
SEE Change Centre (Rugby)
The first centre has been established at Rugby to act as the prototype and proof of concept of the SEE Change project. SEE Change (Rugby) has been operational since July 2006 and will develop the knowledge management platform that will underpin the development of future centres. SEE Change (Rugby) will work with other partners to establish additional centres in every region of the UK.
Currently it is working on the establishment of the National First centre in the West Midlands.
National First SEE Change Centre (Rodbaston)
A partnership between David Kidney MP (Stafford), Rodbaston Further Education College and Pro Enviro has led to the proposal for a physical SEE Change centre in the West Midlands to be established at Rodbaston College. To date this proposal has the support of DEFRA, Advantage West Midlands and the LSC.
To summarise the proposal as it has been developed so far the centre is likely to consist of three main components:
- Demonstration sites of the latest technologies
- A visitor centre to be used as an educational resource for Schools and for the general public
- An educational centre involved in the delivery of vocational courses in sustainable development either at the centre or at partner locations.
The aim is that this centre will become the regional centre for the development and delivery of Sustainable Development Education and demonstration of new technologies.
Through the centre, organisations will have access to innovative methods in sustainability training and capacity building. It will also provide best practice examples of current sustainability projects and hopes to stimulate interest and activity in developing further pilot projects in sustainability and sustainable technologies with partners in the West Midlands.
The invaluable experience of the project will also be captured and shared on an ongoing basis through ongoing collaboration with wider stakeholders, including other Centres of Sustainable Development both in the UK and internationally.
