DECC low carbon programmes spending cuts detailed
July 29, 2010
The Department of Energy and Climate Change has released further information on £34m of spending cuts to their Low Carbon Technology programmes.
Following the Government's announcement to cut £6.2 billion from budgets and spending plans across Whitehall, the Department of Energy and Climate Change has issued further details on how their £85 million budget reduction will impact on their raft of Low Carbon Technology programmes.
A total of £34m will be slashed from a range of programmes, including:
- £3 million from closing the Low Carbon Buildings Fund early (announced in May)
- £6.1 million from efficiency savings and under-spend on existing programme budgets within the DECC
- £4.7 million from cancelling the final funding rounds of the Bio-Energy Capital Grants Scheme and Bio-Energy Infrastructure Scheme
- A reduction of £1 million in the allocation for development of Deep Geothermal energy generation
- £3 million from reducing the scope of the Offshore Wind Capital Grants Programme
- £700,000 from early closure of the Energy Saving Trust technology trials
- £2.9 million from reducing the scope of the Central Government Low Carbon Technology Programme
- £12.6 million reduction in the Carbon Trust's budget for low carbon technology and business support funding
The remainder of the spending reduction will come from increasing efficiency savings across the Department's delivery bodies and a reduction of administrative and salary costs.
Further details are available from the Department for Energy and Climate Change website.
