COSHH case studies

The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) has published a series of new case studies relevant to the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations, 2002 (COSHH), as amended.
Using chemicals or other hazardous substances at work can put people’s health at risk, causing diseases including asthma, dermatitis or cancer. The case studies are based on examples of real life situations pertaining to COSHH.
A variety of situations are described including those of:
- a solderer who developed asthma at a large manufacturers in Gloucester
- a safety representative who spotted baker's asthma
- a school cook who can hardly walk
- a case where two workers were sensitised to Isocyanates
- the reduction of fumes in a Birmingham welders
- a company which was fined after employees suffered from dermatitis
In each case, a summary of the circumstances is outlined, followed by a description of the HSE investigation and finally the effects and conclusion of the case.
