The Waste & Resources Action Programme has produced a new waste reduction guide for design teams. The guide aims to help designers reduce the amount of construction waste sent to landfill. It is the first such guide aimed at architects and designers.
Designing out Waste: A Design Team Guide for Building Projects has been produced at a time when clients are looking to optimise the benefits that can be derived from waste reduction and recovery programmes. There is growing recognition that some of the biggest effects can be achieved by reducing waste at the design stage.
Designing out Waste will enable designers to identify and implement the opportunities to reduce waste and use resources efficiently at the earliest stages of a construction project. It offers advice on resource efficiency and provides an overview of the basic principles of reducing waste through design. It also explains how to cost the benefits gained through the application of good practice in this respect.
The guide has been developed in close association with architects.
