Grants available for recycling in the West Midlands

March 23, 2009

The Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP) has announced that recycling businesses in the West Midlands can now apply for grants worth almost £200,000 under its Advantage West Midlands (AWM) programme.

This funding is being made available as part of an exclusive package of support worth £5 million in total. Businesses will be able to receive up to 50% funding towards the capital costs of collecting, recycling or reprocessing the regions commercial and industrial waste. Items eligible for this support include plant, equipment, machinery, civil engineering and buildings.

Each year, businesses in the West Midlands send several million tonnes of waste to landfill at a cost of up to £250 million. A study undertaken by the AWM and the Regional Technical Advisory Body on Waste forecast that, unless the necessary investment and support is made available, there will be an infrastructure capacity deficit of approximately 3.7 million tonnes by 2020.

The WRAP AWM project has been created to address these issues and it will run until March 2011. An application form is available online at: www.wrap.org.uk/funding.
