Waste energy plant plans on show

January 8, 2009

A £110m waste to energy plant in Lincolnshire has come a step closer.

Plans for the plant on an old landfill site at North Hykeham have gone on display following the submission of a formal planning application.

The centre, which would create up to 40 jobs, would burn non-recyclable waste to heat businesses and homes.

It will feature a 75ft (23m) chimney stack and operate 24 hours a day. Some nearby residents have voiced concern over increased traffic.

The county council said the plant would stop waste going to landfill in a clean and efficient way.

But some of those living nearby said trucks supplying the site could damage the area, a charge denied by the authorities.

The application can be viewed at North Kesteven District Council offices and Lincolnshire County Council offices.

A decision on the plans is expected in the coming year.
