Plans for 'rubbish fuel' factory

February 19, 2008

A cement company has submitted plans to build a factory which would be run by burning some of Warwickshire's waste.

Cemex wants to build the so-called Climafuel factory either at its main base in Rugby or at its quarry in nearby Southam.

Those behind the plans said the rubbish would be burnt as an alternative fuel, partly to replace coal.

However, people living near the sites said they were concerned about an increase in traffic.

The company has already applied for permission to burn Climafuel, made of paper, plastics and wood, at its plant in Lawford Road, New Bilton, but now it wants to make the fuel itself.

The initial plans have been submitted to Rugby Borough Council.
