Plans to build a new large incinerator in Warwickshire could be scrapped.
County council officers have instead recommended that more of the county's waste should be incinerated in Coventry and Staffordshire.
The proposals, which it is said would save taxpayers' money, were being discussed by councillors on Thursday.
They include a plan to pay to use an incinerator in Whitley, Coventry, which council leaders said had the capacity to take on more rubbish.
The council's environment spokesman Martin Heatley said he believed the original plans for the new incinerator, which was expected to cost £100m, would not be needed.
