Backed by the European Commission, the first EU Sustainable Energy Week will run from 29 January to 2 February this year under the umbrella of the Sustainable Energy Europe Campaign.
To mark the event, an EU-funded research programme, CONCERTO Plus, is organising a conference on 1 February in the Charlemagne Conference Centre in Brussels under the title "Sustainable Construction - a good business?"
Answering its own question, the CONCERTO Plus team argues in the conference brochure that sustainable construction is not just feasible, but can also be economically viable. At the conference, key stakeholders from various fields of the construction sector will discuss how cities and the construction industry as a whole can be motivated and prepared to re-define their well-tested approach to construction to include environmental and energy objectives as key elements in the overall building process.
CONCERTO supports 28 local communities across 12 European countries in demonstrating practices that are both sustainable and highly energy efficient.
