September 19, 2006

A 15-year-old boy has had his right arm amputated after it was trapped in a butcher's mincer for two hours.

Surgeons from the Royal Oldham Hospital were called to J&B Fitton Ltd in Shaw, Greater Manchester, and decided to amputate his right arm above the elbow.

Sam Ashworth, who was working part-time at the shop, is said to be in a stable condition in the hospital after being admitted on Saturday.

A health and safety investigation has been started by Oldham Council.
