Man dies in cement plant accident

A man has died following an accident at a cement plant in Rugby.

The 34-year-old was one of two outside contractors from Sheffield installing a new bag filter system on the fourth floor of a tower on Tuesday morning.

His colleague, aged 27, was taken to Waslgrave Hospital in Coventry with back injuries. Health and Safety officials are investigating.

Plant owner Cemex said lifting equipment was involved. A post-mortem examination is due on Wednesday.

A spokeswoman said of the death at the plant in Lawford Road, New Bilton, Rugby: "Sadly, this has resulted in the death of one of the contractors.

"The second contractor has gone to hospital with what we believe are, minor injuries. The incident is currently being investigated," she added.
