Oil giant BP has said that freezing winter temperatures in Russia hit production at its TNK-BP joint venture in the first three months of the year.
The fall will contribute to a dip in output across the group, BP said, with production set to hit about 4.025m barrels a day over the quarter.
This compares with production of 4.101m barrels a day a year ago.
However, BP said output outside Russia was recovering as production came back on stream in the Gulf of Mexico.
Last year, hurricanes Rita and Katrina battered oil rigs in the region.
BP said the steady return of production from the area meant its output from outside Russia would increase to about 3.035m barrels a day in the first three months of the year, from 2.995m in the previous quarter.
In addition to the cold weather in Russia, BP said that disposals at its TNK-BP business meant production had slumped to 990,000 barrels a day in the January to March period, down from 1.03m in the previous quarter.
