A council that recently boasted it was "leading the way" in protecting the environment has come under fire for leaving street lights on day and night.
Coldean residents say some lights have been on permanently for four months.
The electricity company EDF insisted it is not its fault, saying the lights are broken and it is up to Brighton and Hove Council to fix them.
The council said the lights were too old to be fixed but would be replaced gradually "as budgets allow".
Earlier this week, Brighton and Hove Council issued a press release celebrating its latest eco friendly policies.
But that was not good enough according to the Green Party.
"Brighton and Hove's Labour administration says some very good things but it doesn't always carry them forward," said Councillor Sue Paskins.
"It came out with a wonderful climate strategy but please just turn the lights off during the day."
One resident added: "I think it's awful because they're telling us to save on fuel yet they (the lights) have been on all these weeks."
In some areas the council has responded to the public's plea.
