Early action on waste following the Tsunami reduces significant risks to public health, clears the way for rehabilitation and reconstruction as well as provides opportunities for reuse and recycling. Such waste management actions assist in the redevelopment of municipal infrastructure and provide a positive psychological impact by visual improvements at the street level and an opportunity to easily mobilise the local community.
