Summary of changes to PPC Regulations

The Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA) and the Welsh Assembly Government have published a summary of changes as a result of the Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales) (Amendment) and Connected Provisions Regulations 2004 which recently amended the Pollution Prevention and Control (England and Wales) Regulations 2000 (the PPC Regulations).

Key procedural changes relate to:


  • the requirement for local authorities to place their cost accounts on the public register

  • the exemption of research and development activities from Part B and A(2)

  • the decision to allow regulators to take enforcement action before October 2007 if an application is deemed to be withdrawn due to insufficient information being provided.


The note also summarises other minor changes and amendments to the Landfill (England and Wales) Regulations 2002.
