A survey has found that nearly eight in ten employers could be contributing to "Burn-out Britain" by failing to manage the main factors identified by the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) known to cause stress at work.
Croner, one of the UK's leading providers of business information and advice, discovered that seventy-nine percent of health and safety professionals polled have not taken any action to implement the HSE's new stress "Management Standards" introduced last year.
The HSE identifies six sources of stress, or "stressors", thought to contribute to workplace stress: demands, control, support, relationships, roles and change.
Employers will have to meet a percentage target of staff who must think each Standard is being achieved when the Management Standards are enforced later this year. These percentage targets are still being refined, but currently range from 65% to 85%, depending on the "stressor". Failure to meet these targets means the employer will fail an assessment.
